Project description
Information Technology has hugely affected medical imaging, making
possible the realization Of complex vision systems, like
ultrasonography. So far the interpretation of bioimages has always been
exclusive responsibility of physicians, but recently computerized
schemes have been proposed to highlight from images some important
aspects of biological tissues invisible to human eye. Our research
focuses on automatic techniques for detection and characterization of
cancer lesions in ultrasound (US) images, based on computer vision and
artificial intelligence. The main achievement consists on the
implementation of a complete Computer-Aided Diagnosis scheme to
recognize cancer zones in US images based on the computation of a large
number of features: spectral features capture acoustic information,
textural features extract the spatial alignment of grey levels, fractal
features are used to understand the complexity of signals. Contact: Nicola Testoni >
